With the holiday season upon us, we want to take a moment to say an emphatic thank you for your continued support of our small (but growing!) business over the past three and a half years. What started out as a shared pipe-dream between two friends has taken on a life of its own, blossoming into a Bay Area-wide known haven for organic and locally sourced sweets.
We honestly couldn’t have made our dream a reality without you, our community, who have pushed us to be creative and provide the absolute best product available time and time again. Contributing to your special events, whether they be wedding receptions, the birthdays of your children, your own birthdays, anniversaries and graduations has ultimately been the most fulfilling aspect of owning and operating Oakland Bakes – your joy and satisfaction has brought us the utmost amount of happiness.
And so it is with heavy hearts that we announce that Oakland Bakes will be closing its doors on January 1, 2015. We’ve loved serving our community, but with rising produce and dairy prices dependent on California’s crippling drought, we are unable to continue offering the high quality organic product that we believe whole-heartedly in without raising our own prices to a point that would both alienate our amazing customer base and, to be quite frank, make us entirely uncomfortable. We are so sad to say goodbye, but we feel this is the right decision to make in order to avoid either compromising the integrity of our product, or our own integrity as small business owners dedicated to offering a premium artisanal product to the community that we love and respect.
We want there to be no confusion or apprehension, however, for those of you who still have upcoming orders with us in 2015. We are 100% dedicated to ensuring that you receive the product that you purchased! Likewise, for those who contributed to our Kiva Zip campaign in July, your incredibly generous loan will absolutely be repaid and returned to you. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please feel free to contact us with them.
On a brighter note, you will still be able to follow us and what we’re up to out there in the world! You can continue to follow Kelsi and her food adventures and travels on Instagram, while Brittany will continue to update the weekly Oakland Bakes blog featuring information and interviews with new and up-and-coming food entrepreneurs in Oakland, personal recipes (local and organic ingredients are still a must!), discussions about owning and operating a micro business and everything else East Bay related. We feel close and connected with everyone that we’ve baked for and worked with, so we hope that you’ll stay connected with us!
We wish everyone a wonderfully delicious holiday season and the happiest New Year! Thank you again for your continued support – you, personally, have made this journey worth every step of the way.
You guys rock and we love all of you.
